The impact of the mobile web can be seen in young adults’ computer choices. Two thirds of 18-29 year olds (66%) own a laptop or netbook, while 53% own a desktop computer. Young adults are the only age cohort for which laptop computers are more popular than desktops
Undeniably the internet has granted today’s teenagers with access to many benefits but what if the ease of the internet is destroying the human side of the teenagers by not allowing the youth to form real life and physical social connections. There is a plenty of research that shows how the youth of today’s society has benefitted from social media and the use of the internet, but that is because the researches overlook a very crucial part of the human society. That vital part of society that the future generations will depend on and that researches over look, is that, the use of social media and internet websites weaken and or prohibit the youth from forming social connections and learning how to effectively deal with real life scenarios face to face. Which brings researchers back to the research question, does social media have a negative impact on teenager’s social life and sense of self-worth. The youth, in particular teenagers, have been neglected and negatively impacted socially and emotionally through the use of social media and the internet. The neglect and negative impacts on the teenagers of today’s society is caused from two main aspects. The two main aspects are the phenomenon of “Facebook depression” and how a teenage user can become dependent on social media and the distractions caused by the need, that teenage youths have, to check their social media websites and constantly and keep their own social media profiles up to date.
